Fashion Trend – Art Deco Fashion

The Art Deco fashion trend was started in 1930 with the birth of the Pop Art movement. After the World War II, the United States undergoes a massive cultural shift and became more receptive towards avant-garde styles. Art Deco is a style of fashion that originated from the Art Nouveau movement, and which concentrates on bold geometric shapes, contrasting colours and a simplistic approach to design. The art Deco fashion trend started in clothing as well as interior design. It was later applied to other areas such as architecture, jewelry and art. Some of the most notable designers who are associated with the art Deco style are Andy Warhol, Roy Lichtenstein, Marilyn Monroe and Frank Stella.

The Art Deco fashions are generally considered to be a non traditional style. These are not your traditional men’s wear items but rather dresses and clothing that are extremely feminine and classy looking. Although the Art Deco clothing can be made using modern materials, the main basis for their designs are silk and rayon, which make them extremely soft and smooth. To get an idea of how the dresses would appear on your body, check out some of the famous glamour pictures from the time, including the dress worn by Marilyn Monroe in the swinging era.

The latest addition to the Art Deco fashion trend is vintage and antique pieces. Any item that has been manufactured within the last 40 years is considered to be vintage and it can impart a stylish, vintage look to any wardrobe. Items such as brooches, pins, necklaces, hair pins, brooches, luggage tags and even footwear are all considered to be accessories to your outfit and should therefore be chosen carefully. Although there are many different types of Art Deco items available to purchase, it’s important to go for pieces which are made using the original fabrics, rather than reproductions, as they will not last as long and the same effect will not be achieved.
